As a Virginia-based photographer, I’m lucky to be surrounded by a rich blend of natural beauty, historic charm, and architectural elegance. Whether I’m capturing portraits, engagements, or creative sessions, these locations never fail to inspire. If you’re looking for the perfect backdrop for your next shoot, here are my personal favorite spots across the Richmond area.

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA)

The VMFA isn’t just for art lovers, it’s a visual treat for photographers too. With clean lines, open spaces, and sculptural elements, this spot offers a modern aesthetic with timeless appeal. The grounds are beautifully maintained year-round, making it a versatile choice for any shoot. Photography has some restrictions indoors but none outside with the beautiful landscaping.

Maymont Park’s Japanese Garden

Tranquil and meticulously landscaped, the Japanese Garden is one of my favorite hidden gems. With koi ponds, arched bridges, and stone lanterns, it offers an exotic and peaceful atmosphere perfect for elegant, serene photos. There are A LOT of stairs to climb so wear comfortable shoes.
